is a versatile contemporary artist characterized by an impressive range of techniques and motifs. His work spans from expressive maritime etchings and watercolors to large-format, elaborate oil paintings that thrive on bold colors and strong contrasts.
Artistic philosophy: "I paint because I have no other choice"
For Björn Kirste, painting is an essential process – comparable to dreaming, as a way to process experiences, moods, and encounters. The unique quality of his art lies in the freedom of creation: limiting himself to a single motif or a rigid technique would restrict his creative output.
This results in an enormous artistic variety that consistently surprises and delights the viewer.
Maritime art, graphic precision, and technical diversity
Björn Kirste is particularly well-known for his multifaceted maritime works. The interplay of bold colors, graphic elements, and the transition to fine drawing characterizes his entire oeuvre.
His technical and thematic spectrum includes:
- Maritime motifs: Detailed fish, coastal landscapes, and maritime worlds.
- Filigree etchings: Fine art prints with a distinct emphasis on drawing.
- Watercolor painting: Luminous, atmospheric color compositions.
- Elaborate oil paintings: Color-intensive, high-contrast canvas works of great depth.
