Felix Stoever

(1972–2010) was a North German artist and qualified physicist whose unique body of work builds a fascinating bridge between natural science, fluorescence physics, and subcultural psytrance aesthetics. His fluorescent and phosphorescent artworks unfold a magical intensity under blacklight and UV light.

Physics studies at DESY & Psytrance subculture

Felix Stoever was born in Lüneburg in 1972 and grew up in Apensen near Buxtehude. He studied physics at the University of Hamburg and completed his diploma thesis at the renowned DESY research center in 2007. This scientific foundation had a lasting influence on his painting.

Since the early 1990s, he simultaneously made a name for himself in the psytrance and Goa scene: he created elaborate festival decorations, designed album covers and flyers, and mastered the physical effects of luminous color pigments.

Style & Technique: Blacklight art between the visible and the invisible

Stoever combined his deep physical understanding of fluorescence and phosphorescence with the psychedelic energy of the art scene. His works make the invisible visible under UV and blacklight, symbolizing the connection between the earthly and the spiritual.

Posthumous rediscovery & exhibitions

Following his tragic death in November 2010 at the age of only 38, his work remained hidden for a long time. Since 2024, his spectacular UV artworks have been receiving great public recognition once again:

  • 2024: Solo exhibition at the Hamburger Kunstgalerie (Hamburg).
  • 2024: Exhibition "Parallel Universes" at the science experience center at European XFEL (Schenefeld near Hamburg).
