Katja Nordmeyer

is an independent Hamburg-based artist whose multi-layered abstract painting captivates with its haptic sublimity and profound themes. Using special fillers, crackling effects, and unusual substrates such as perforated aluminum sheets, she addresses nature, environmental threats, and the classic motif of transience (vanitas).

Artistic Education & Tradition

Katja Nordmeyer lives and works in Hamburg. Her sound artistic background is based on many years of studies in free painting – including with the respected artist Lothar Schulz-Goldap, who was himself a student of Prof. Fritz Mackensen (co-founder of the Worpswede artists' colony). This close connection to masterful tradition is combined with a completely free, modern design language.

Style & "Vanitas" Series: Relief-like Crack Structures on Aluminum

In her abstract works, Katja Nordmeyer engages intensively with nature as the foundation of life and its vulnerability. A milestone in her work is her "Vanitas" series, in which she makes the theme of transience tangible:

  • Special putty technique: Through the targeted use of structuring fillers, expressive cracks and craquelé textures are created.
  • Extraordinary surfaces: In addition to classic canvas, she uses perforated aluminum sheets as a substrate, merging industrial and organic elements.
  • Relief-like character: Her artworks possess a haptic three-dimensionality that casts dynamic shadows depending on the incidence of light.
