About the artist Thomas Dalecki

Thomas Dalecki works as a photographer with a clear focus on stillness, reduction, and atmosphere. His images are created primarily using analog techniques, mostly in public spaces – often early in the morning, in fog, frost, or diffuse light – where places lose their function and become pure spaces.

He shoots predominantly on black-and-white film and prefers using medium and large format cameras. The deliberate slowing down of the analog process is a central component of his work: seeing, waiting, reducing. In individual cases, he complements this method with digital photography if it serves the subject and the artistic vision.

Thematically, his works move between landscape, architectural fragments, and everyday spaces. People are mostly absent, though their traces are visible. The photographs do not tell of events, but of states – of moments in which movement pauses and a quiet tension arises.

Thomas Dalecki views the prints as independent works. The choice of paper, tonal gradation, and haptics are an integral part of the photographic result. His works invite quiet contemplation and open up space for one's own thoughts and associations.
